Description
Phasing was originally composed as part of an assignment during Emmanuelle's music studies at university. As the title suggests, the piece uses the compositional technique of phasing, which was popularised by composer Steve Reich. The idea is that a series of notes is repeated by different instruments, in this case marimba, harp, piano, celesta and vibraphone, and gradually shifts out of unison as the first note of the series is displaced. What you get is an ever-changing interplay between these notes while the clarinet plays the melody.
